What Is Ashtakavarga?
The word Ashtakavarga is derived from two Sanskrit words:
Ashta = Eight
Varga = Divisions or groups
Ashtakavarga is a unique numerical system of Vedic Astrology in which the strength and capacity of the twelve zodiac signs and houses are assessed through the contributions of seven planets and the Lagna.
The eight contributors are:
- Sun
- Moon
- Mars
- Mercury
- Jupiter
- Venus
- Saturn
- Lagna
Each of these contributes favourable points, known as Bindus, to different signs according to specific classical rules based on their relative positions in the horoscope.
The final distribution of these points provides an important numerical map of the horoscope, showing which signs and houses possess greater potential to deliver favourable results.
How Is Ashtakavarga Calculated?
Each of the seven planets has its own individual Ashtakavarga, known as Bhinnashtakavarga.
In each Bhinnashtakavarga chart, the planet under consideration receives contributions from the seven planets and the Lagna according to fixed classical rules. A favourable contribution is represented by a Bindu, while the absence of such a contribution is traditionally represented by a Rekha.
The individual Ashtakavarga charts are then combined to form the Sarvashtakavarga, which gives the total number of Bindus in each of the twelve signs.

- The best parameter for the chart is to have good bindoos in the 10th house showing the Potential of work and the 11th house should have more then the 10th house the more the bindoos the more the Profits
- 10th and 11th house having less then 28 bindoos show the Potential of work is not big and hence the Profits are also not good.
- If 10th house has more bindoos then the 11th house the person will have to put more efforts and even then the profits may be low as compared to the investments
- From Any house the 10th and 11th house has more differential, meaning that 10th house from any house has good points and the 11th from it has more differential then the Native should work according to the house from which the above happens will bring very good results.
- The best way to pick a house which has maximum bindoos in the Chart and the preceding house has less then the next house the best Profession should be related to the house from where the 10th and 11th house producing extraordinary results.
