July–August 2026: Jupiter and Mercury Under Severe Affliction May Drive the World into Chaos

Combust Jupiter, Combust–Retrograde Mercury and Retrograde Saturn Create One of the Most Critical Planetary Configurations of 2026

By Acharya (Dr.) Anil Aggarwala

Introduction

In my earlier articles published during June and July 2026, I had repeatedly highlighted that the period from July through August 2026 would emerge as one of the most critical planetary windows of the year. Those forecasts were based upon the classical principles of Prashna Marga, Kota Chakra, Rashi Sanghatta Chakra, Nakshatra Sanghatta Chakra, planetary transits and traditional Jyotish classics.

Please listen to my Podcast made on the 15th  July 2026

The planetary picture now unfolding further strengthens that assessment.

The most benefic planet in Vedic Astrology—Jupiter (Guru)—moves in accelerated motion and becomes combust by the Sun from 14th July 2026 until 12th August 2026, remaining under combustion for approximately 29 days.

At the very same time:

  • Mercury remains combust, retrograde and debilitated (fallen) until 24th July 2026.
  • Saturn turns retrograde in Pisces on 27th July 2026.
  • Several major planets occupy watery signs, creating conditions traditionally associated with turbulence in world affairs.

According to the classical principles of Jyotish, this combination can produce disturbances in governance, diplomacy, financial markets, weather patterns and ongoing geopolitical conflicts.

Why is Jupiter’s Combustion So Important?

In Vedic Astrology,

  • The Sun represents the King (Government, Supreme Authority).
  • Jupiter represents the King’s Advisor, Wisdom, Dharma, Ethics and Sound Judgment.

When Jupiter comes too close to the Sun, it becomes combust and loses much of its ability to guide the King.

The symbolism is profound.

The ruler becomes less inclined to listen to wise counsel and may instead act:

  • impulsively,
  • arrogantly,
  • emotionally,
  • or from personal ego rather than national interest.

History often shows that periods of afflicted Jupiter coincide with poor judgment by leaders and major geopolitical miscalculations.

1. Escalation of Existing Wars

During Jupiter’s combustion, diplomatic wisdom weakens.

Instead of negotiations, confrontation becomes more likely.

The conflicts most vulnerable to escalation include:

Region Possible Developments
US–Israel–Iran Expansion of military operations, wider regional conflict, disruption of shipping routes and oil supplies
Russia–Ukraine Intensified offensives, reduced diplomatic dialogue and prolonged conflict
Middle East New military fronts and increased involvement of neighbouring countries

The possibility of meaningful ceasefire negotiations may weaken considerably during this period.

2. Mercury’s Triple Affliction May Create Global Confusion

Until 24th July 2026, Mercury suffers three simultaneous afflictions:

  • Combust
  • Retrograde
  • Fallen (Debilitated)

Mercury governs:

  • Communication
  • Intelligence
  • Trade
  • Commerce
  • Negotiations
  • Transportation
  • Technology
  • Psychology of Investors
  • Stock Markets

When Mercury becomes simultaneously afflicted in all three ways, classical astrology associates it with:

  • misunderstanding,
  • misinformation,
  • diplomatic errors,
  • intelligence failures,
  • financial confusion,
  • policy mistakes,
  • delayed decisions,
  • market panic.

The combination of a combust Jupiter and an afflicted Mercury is particularly concerning because both wisdom and communication become compromised simultaneously.

3. Stock Markets May Witness Extreme Volatility

Jupiter signifies:

  • Wealth
  • Banking
  • Prosperity
  • Institutional Finance

Mercury signifies:

  • Trading
  • Market Psychology
  • Investor Sentiment
  • Speculation

When both planets suffer affliction simultaneously, market confidence can weaken.

Possible manifestations include:

  • Panic selling
  • Profit booking
  • Violent intraday swings
  • Increased volatility
  • Sharp corrections followed by recoveries
  • Unpredictable investor behaviour

The most sensitive window appears to be:

14th July – 24th July 2026

with broader volatility possible until

12th August 2026.

4. Precious Metals May Experience Violent Swings

Periods of uncertainty generally encourage movement toward safe-haven assets.

Gold, silver and other precious metals could experience:

  • sharp rallies,
  • sudden corrections,
  • exceptional volatility,
  • rapid price reversals.

Rather than smooth trends, markets may witness dramatic roller-coaster movements.

5. Oil Prices May Surge

If military tensions intensify in West Asia, disruptions around strategic shipping lanes could significantly affect energy markets.

Possible consequences include:

  • higher crude oil prices,
  • shipping disruptions,
  • increased insurance costs,
  • inflationary pressures,
  • renewed global supply-chain challenges.

6. Ceasefire Efforts May Weaken

Combust Jupiter reduces wisdom.

Afflicted Mercury weakens communication.

Together they create an astrological environment where negotiations become increasingly difficult.

Existing ceasefires may:

  • break down,
  • remain fragile,
  • or fail to materialise altogether.

Wars already underway could become considerably more intense.

7. Religious or Ideological Tensions May Rise

Jupiter governs:

  • Religion
  • Spiritual Institutions
  • Religious Leadership
  • Ethics
  • Moral Philosophy

Its combustion can symbolically indicate:

  • provocative religious statements,
  • ideological conflicts,
  • increased social polarisation,
  • heightened emotional reactions.

A major religious leader or influential ideological figure may inadvertently trigger new tensions that resonate internationally.

8. Natural Calamities May Increase

Jupiter is doubly afflicted in a watery sign.

Its aspect upon retrograde Saturn in Pisces creates a significant emphasis on the water element.

Traditional Jyotish associates such combinations with:

  • unprecedented rainfall,
  • widespread flooding,
  • cyclones,
  • hurricanes,
  • tornadoes,
  • cloudbursts,
  • earthquakes,
  • tsunami threats,
  • coastal devastation.

Some regions may witness rainfall exceeding previous historical records.

Countries with long coastlines and low-lying regions could remain particularly vulnerable.

9. Saturn Retrograde from 27th July 2026 Intensifies the Situation

On 27th July 2026, Saturn begins retrograde motion in Pisces.

According to several classical Jyotish authorities, Saturn’s retrogression under these conditions contributes to a powerful Durbhiksha Yoga, extending until 11th December 2026.

This combination may indicate:

  • prolonged geopolitical instability,
  • food supply concerns,
  • economic stress,
  • inflation,
  • agricultural disruptions,
  • continued market volatility,
  • increasing uncertainty in global governance.

Timeline of the Critical Planetary Window

Date Planetary Event Possible Areas of Influence
14 July 2026 Jupiter becomes combust Weakening of diplomacy, wisdom and leadership
14–24 July 2026 Jupiter combust + Mercury combust, retrograde and fallen Peak period for market volatility, communication failures and geopolitical risks
27 July 2026 Saturn turns retrograde in Pisces Durbhiksha Yoga intensifies, prolonged instability begins
12 August 2026 Jupiter emerges from combustion Gradual easing of Jupiter-related afflictions
11 December 2026 Durbhiksha Yoga concludes Potential reduction in systemic geopolitical and financial stress

Conclusion

The period from 14th July to 12th August 2026 represents one of the most sensitive planetary phases of the year.

The simultaneous affliction of Jupiter—the planet of wisdom, prosperity and guidance—and Mercury—the planet governing communication, commerce and market psychology—creates a combination that classical Jyotish regards as particularly significant.

Combined with Saturn’s retrograde motion beginning on 27th July 2026, these configurations suggest a heightened possibility of:

  • escalation in existing wars,
  • setbacks in peace negotiations,
  • extreme volatility in financial markets,
  • fluctuations in precious metals,
  • rising oil prices,
  • communication failures,
  • ideological tensions,
  • and severe weather-related events.

As indicated in my earlier forecasts, July and August 2026 remain the most critical months of the year from an astrological perspective, demanding careful observation of unfolding global events.

The coming weeks will reveal the extent to which these classical planetary combinations manifest in geopolitical, financial and natural developments across the world.
