The Engagement Muhurta That Failed: An Astrological Analysis of the Engagement Ceremony
By Acharya (Dr.) Anil Aggarwala
Introduction
The tragic death of Ketan Agarwal shocked the nation and raised many unanswered questions. From an astrological perspective, the Muhurta (electional chart) chosen for an engagement or marriage plays a significant role in determining the harmony, longevity and outcome of the relationship.
According to classical Jyotish, the strength of the Lagna, the 7th house, the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and the Rahu–Ketu axis are among the most important considerations while selecting a Muhurta for marriage or engagement.
The engagement ceremony of a couple in the lime light and the News , held on 15 February 2026 at approximately 7:00 PM, occurred just two days before the Annular Solar Eclipse of 17 February 2026. In my assessment, the Muhurta itself contained several serious afflictions that, according to traditional astrological principles, made it unsuitable for an auspicious beginning.
The following analysis presents these astrological observations.
Muhurta Analysis
1. Leo Lagna with Ketu Rising

At the time of the engagement:
- Leo Lagna was rising.
- Ketu occupied the Ascendant at approximately 14°03′, almost exactly on the Lagna.
This is one of the strongest afflictions in Muhurta astrology.
Ketu in the Lagna may indicate:
- Lack of stability.
- Unexpected reversals.
- Separation.
- Confusion regarding the future.
- Sudden karmic events.
2. Ceremony Held Two Days Before the Solar Eclipse
The engagement took place only two days before the Annular Solar Eclipse of 17 February 2026.
Traditionally, eclipses are treated with caution in Muhurta selection because they can symbolically indicate instability or obstacles. Choosing an engagement immediately before such an eclipse is generally avoided in classical electional astrology.
3. Rahu Occupying the Seventh House
The seventh house of marriage was heavily afflicted.
It contained:
- Rahu
- Sun
- Mercury
- Venus
- Moon (approaching conjunction)
This concentration of planets near Rahu placed considerable stress on the house governing partnerships.
4. Seventh House in Paap Kartari Yoga
The marriage house was enclosed by malefic influences, creating Paap Kartari Yoga.
According to classical Muhurta principles, such a configuration is traditionally regarded as unfavourable for commencing major life events, including marriage and engagement ceremonies.
5. Saturn, Lord of the Seventh House
The seventh lord, Saturn, was placed in the eighth house.
Traditionally this placement may indicate:
- Delays.
- Obstacles.
- Transformative events.
- Strain in relationships.
6. Affliction to Marriage Significators
The principal significators connected with marriage were under stress.
The natural indicators of marital harmony were affected by:
- Rahu.
- Ketu.
- Eclipse influence.
- Multiple malefic combinations.
- Jupiter Fallen in the 11th house aspects the 7th house
- Venus afflicted
From a classical perspective, these combinations weaken the overall strength of the Muhurta.
7. Husband Significator
The significator connected with the husband was also under affliction. Jupiter Fallen in the 11th house aspects the 7th house of marriage
In my analysis, this factor further reduced the strength of the engagement Muhurta.
Rahu’s Disturbed Motion
An additional observation in your research concerns the movement of Rahu around 16–17 February 2026, immediately preceding the eclipse.
In your astrological framework, this disturbed nodal influence further weakened the Muhurta and added another adverse factor affecting the engagement.
Navamsha (D9) Analysis
The Navamsha chart also showed several challenging combinations.
Lagna
Three natural malefics occupied the Navamsha Ascendant:
- Mars
- Saturn
- Ketu
This significantly weakened the foundation of the relationship.
Sixth House
- Debilitated Sun.
- Venus placed in the sixth house.
Eighth House
- Moon debilitated.
- Mercury debilitated.
The eighth house is associated with sudden transformations and challenges. Multiple debilitated planets here further reduced the strength of the Muhurta.
Ninth House
- Fallen Jupiter.
Although Jupiter aspects the Ascendant, its weakened condition limited the protective influence that would normally be expected from this benefic planet.
Fallen Planet Principle
One of the important concepts discussed in my earlier articles concerns the behaviour of a fallen planet during Atichari (accelerated) motion followed by retrogression. Jupiter the Karka for Husband is fallen in the 11th house of the chat on the 15th Feb 2026
I have compared this to:
A vehicle climbing a steep hill with great speed. Suddenly the engine loses momentum, the brakes fail, and the vehicle rolls backward uncontrollably before crashing from a height.
In this symbolic framework, a fallen planet represents a period during which apparent strength can be followed by a rapid reversal of circumstances.
Prashna Perspective
My Prashna analysis also indicated considerable weakness in the foundation of this engagement.
Important observations included:
- Disturbed Rahu–Ketu axis.
- Afflicted marriage indicators.
- Weak Navamsha support.
- Eclipse influence.
- Malefic concentration around the Lagna and seventh house.
Taken together, these combinations suggested that the engagement faced significant astrological challenges from its inception.

Conclusion
According to my astrological assessment, the engagement Muhurta of 15 February 2026 contained numerous combinations that classical Jyotish traditionally regards as unfavourable for initiating a lifelong marital relationship.
The principal factors included:
- Ketu exactly on the Ascendant.
- Ceremony immediately preceding the Annular Solar Eclipse.
- Rahu occupying the seventh house.
- Seventh house under Paap Kartari Yoga.
- Seventh lord in the eighth house.
- Multiple afflictions to marriage significators.
- Challenging Navamsha combinations.
- Disturbed Rahu influence.
- Fallen Jupiter.
- Weak protective influences.
From the standpoint of electional astrology, this Muhurta illustrates the importance traditionally placed on selecting an auspicious time for major life events.
