High oil prices and a surging US dollar are a potent mix for emerging economies like India and Indonesia. These countries, with high current-account deficits, are particularly vulnerable. The recent Israel-Hamas crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war have added fuel to the fire for a layer of uncertainty, fuelling geopolitical tensions and destabilizing the already volatile oil market. Experts fear that if the Middle East conflict were to involve Iran, Brent crude prices could skyrocket to $150 a barrel, delivering a severe blow to these oil-dependent economies.
