Tariffs of 15% on $112 billion of Chinese goods went into effect on Sunday, as did retaliatory Chinese tariffs on U.S. products like crude-oil imports.
“While there were few hopes that U.S. President Trump would cancel the tariffs in a last-minute change of heart, investors were nevertheless steering clear of risk assets on the first trading day of the month amid worries that the latest hike in duties would be more damaging than previous ones,” said Raffi Boyadjian of XM Investment Research in London.

On Friday, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) released India’s GDP figures for the quarter ending June 2019. At 5% this value is the lowest since March 2013.
The June quarter is not an aberration. India’s GDP growth rate has been slowing for five consecutive quarters now. This is only the second instance since December 1999 that the GDP growth rate has fallen for five straight quarters. Between March 2018 and June 2019, the Indian economy has lost 3.1 percentage points in terms of GDP growth. Anybody who thinks that the Indian economy is not in a serious crisis right now is being economical with the truth.

Gold and silver prices edged higher in global markets today as US and China launched fresh tit-for-tat tariffs on each others goods, boosting the safe-haven appeal of the metal.
Spot gold was 0.4% higher at $1,525.86 per ounce, having fallen to a one-week low at $1,517.11 in the previous session. US gold futures were also 0.4% higher at $1,535.10 an ounce. Among other precious metals, silver edged 0.1% higher to $18.36 per ounce.

The Parliament security staff caught a man trying to enter the Parliament premises with a knife on Monday morning.
The bike-borne man was trying to enter the Parliament House riding a motorbike and was carrying a knife with him. He was trying to enter through the gate on the Vijay Chowk side.
