Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was on Wednesday 6th May 2015 sentenced by a sessions court to five years’ rigorous imprisonment in the 2002 hit-and-run case, but he swiftly moved the Bombay High Court which granted him interim bail till May 8 to hear his appeal against conviction.
Justice Abhay Thipsay granted interim bail to the actor after observing that the accused had not been given a copy of the conviction order by the sessions court.
Salman has been convicted under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving); 279 (rash driving); 337 (causing minor injuries); 338 (causing major injuries) 427 (negligence) in connection with the case. Under Motor Vehicle Act Sections 34 (a), (b) read with 181 (driving vehicle in contravention of rules); 185 (driving at great speed after consuming alcohol).

There is another Application made by a Lawyer in the Supreme Court against the Decision of the Bombay High Court for cancellation of the Bail which again as per media will be heard by the court on the 11th May 2015. .Hence chances are for getting Bail and Application for appeal will be admitted as mentioned above..
